FAQ

What is AlteranCraft?

AlteranCraft is a free-to-play third-party multiplayer Minecraft server playable on Java Edition, and Bedrock edition.

Who do you play as?

You play as you, a citizen of Altera. You begin in Port, our superflat world where you can build anything you want.

What are the objectives?

Adventurers teams in Altera take part in quests, acquire land by founding a town, amass wealth and build awesome creations. By battling with and against other players, players can control specific areas of the other worlds of Altera. Once they gain control of a territory, they will have control of its resources and can build upon it; the more resources players have, the more powerful they become.

How is the game “massively multiplayer”?

AlteranCraft takes place on a persistent third-party Minecraft server, meaning the game still goes on even when you've logged off (even on console!). This means that if you intend to stick around then you had better learn how to protect your land and the resources it holds from other players by teaming up with friends, or hiring NPCs to protect your stuff!

What about unique items and blocks?

There is a story to AlteranCraft and as this unique storyline progresses you'll uncover or gain access to unique items and blocks that are only available on AlteranCraft. Some of these are unlockable through quests, some by hunting mobs, and some you can craft yourself!

So how does the leveling system work?

AlteranCraft players can train skills for combat, crafting, mining, exploration, or administration. These skills will help to enhance their weapons, equipment, and the things they create so they can take more damage, upgrade their abilities with certain consumables, ride horses more effectively and much more. Leveling up also unlocks abilities to use advanced items and more powerful abilities. Skills can be learned in the background as well. Players can walk away from AlteranCraft for an hour or a day, come back and see that they’ve levelled up something new.

What about money?

Players earn gold, an in-game currency, by winning battles, running missions and more; players can also buy AlteranCredit through the the AlteranCraft website. Players looking to customise their experience can spend either gold or AlteranCraft on a variety of microtransaction purchases. That said, AlteranCraft is not a pay-to-win experience. Players purchasing items with AlteranCraft will not result in an unfair advantage over players who only spend gold, the in-game earned currency.

I have never played Minecraft before and I don’t understand it, will that matter for AlteranCraft?

No, not at all. AlteranCraft is designed to provide great moment-to-moment adventure gameplay, with no knowledge of Minecraft required. But players looking for a deeper experience will be able to discover and explore the rich lore we are creating, and veteran Minecraft players will be able to bring their experience and knowledge into our server & help our new players via our volunteer program that offers unique perks.

So how do I interact with other players?

Initially, AlteranCraft players will be able to join PC-only players to participate in storyline gameplay happening on Port, our first world that offers a flat landscape for sculpting. By working in unison, players will be able to take part in critical quests that can change the initial path of our storyline and thus influence the large scale lore. Players can directly affect the outcome of the storyline by choosing to aid in the construction and activation of the portal to the next world for the benefit of all, or choose to horde resources and build their own portal; and keep it for their own gain.

The AlteranCraft Universe is all about power, domination and control of land. Players in AlteranCraft will work with and against each other to wage battles, conquer land, amass wealth, and build sprawling cities.

That still sounds too complicated. I just want to build things. Can I?

Simple answer, yes. While AlteranCraft is a gateway to a rich and always changing storyline, players looking for the classic just-build experience of Minecraft will enjoy our server and its multitude of items, blocks, worlds, and single-player quests.

How does AlteranCraft support Minecraft: Bedrock Edition?

You can connect to AlteranCraft by configuring your device to take advantage of Geyser/Floodgate, then log on to our server using the connection details on our website.

In addition, we are working to create our own Geyser/Floodgate DNS server to make the connection more seamless in the future.

When does beta start?

The first beta events take place in Spring 2025.

How many beta events are there?

There will be several beta events throughout the spring and summer of 2025, running every other weekend.

When will AlteranCraft be available for everyone?

We will be launching the server on a 24/7 basis in Autumn of 2025.
